On the Issues - Don Hooper, candidate for U.S. Congress:
Finance Rules Americans all over the nation are looking for new solutions to the evolution of events that occurred in the last ten or fifteen years. Most of this concern is centered around two major international events that happened within this time frame. One of which was the rise of Islamic radicals and their attacks in various places around the world, as well as here in our own country. The other was, and still is, the massive invasion by illegal’s coming across our borders that threatens the very security, wealth and character of our nation. Rather than analyzing the effects of these events, I am going to concentrate on the reasons why solutions to them are not being offered by the U. S. Congress or the White House. We all understand that even computers are limited by the programming that is placed in the mechanism, and so it is with a collection of individuals that are intrusted with solutions for the nations problems. I am of course, referring to the congressional body in Washington. It is very obvious that we need a new crop of solution seekers, and that means new people in old places. The trouble is, it is very difficult to replace them. They have built walls of protection to prevent this. The most formidable is money. They receive un-solicited contributions from all over the nation, while their challengers have to grovel for small amounts from the people they intend to represent. This means we need to desperately change the campaign finance laws, and here is the way to do it. A new law, written as simple as the constitution itself, must replace “McCain–Finegold” with Don Hooper’s law. The change should limit new candidates and incumbents alike, to receiving campaign contributions from only within the district they represent. Remember I am only speaking of state and federal offices. (Examples) --For state representatives, they can only receive and solicit monies from within their own state districts. The same rule would apply to state senators. --For federal representatives, They can only receive and solicit monies from within that one of the 15 districts in Michigan the incumbent or challenger lives in. --For a U.S. Senator, They can only receive and solicit monies from within his state of domicile. --Only the president should receive and solicit contributions from anywhere in the nation. This law would apply to all new candidates as well as incumbents. State operated political party
With this new law you would see massive replacements of incompetent representatives every election cycle. That is how America should work. That is how to get lazy intrenched fakes out of office.
