On the Issues - Don Hooper, candidate for U.S. Congress:
Globalism In the last decade or so we knowingly entered into a era that leads us into what we call "A Service Economy," meaning that we depend on other countries to fulfill our consumer requirements, while we sit back and sell goods and services among ourselves. The problem with a service economy is that we lose the incentive and expertise to create for ourselves. We became a superpower in the 20th century because we developed our own natural resources and turned them into products that became the envy of the world. We were self sufficient. Now we fall prey to any dictator that threatens us by cutting the supply of goods that we no longer have the facilities to produce. Our good paying jobs went to many other countries like The Republic of China, that ignores the human rights of their own people, and enslaves them to produce our consumer goods. That provides a transfer of our wealth to their governments. They will eventually attempt to use that wealth to bury us. We also willingly help them by selling, or allowing them to steal our technology via American business that transfers not only our jobs, but the established research and development that goes with the exported business. I believe that we should limit the import of foreign goods to the same amount that we export to that same country. We do this by starting the first quarter of each year with a reasonable trade amount. If at the end of that quarter the trade partner falls behind, trade will end until balance is achieved. This will eliminate the transfer of wealth and force American business back home where it belongs. A great nation, can only stay great by protecting its own interest without apology. We will soon adjust to our own more expensive retail by the American worker getting a higher wage to pay for them. China is very actively stealing our high level technology with cameras and spies at any public show where products are debuted. They are also using computer hackers with regularity to invade the files of the defense department’s secret weapons systems. We must recognize them as the enemies they really are or tomorrow may be too late. It is possible to have friends while not trusting them too far. If you believe jobs are important to our national economy and American way of life, help elect me to office. I will work for fair trade and a strong America.
