On the Issues - Don Hooper, candidate for U.S. Congress:
Presidential Image Please don't misunderstand me. I have no animosity toward the man (Ron Paul) or his criticism of political behavior, socially or economically, in this country. He is revealing a lot of truth while doing so. However, after having to admit that, I am thinking of down the road when the possibility of large scale destruction (dirty bombs, suicide bombers, etc.) raining down upon us here in our own country, caused by the Islamic radicals and aided by the Chinese and Russians. At that point it will be very difficult, if not impossible to reverse our vulnerability to groups that have strengthened and organized themselves unhindered in far away places. At this moment, If president elect, Ron Paul had a white robe on while the trumpets blared and truthful expressions were musically flowing from his mouth, as he walked up the Capitol steps. To be sworn in by The Supreme Court Justice, it would not be enough for me. Because he has ignored the single most important responsibility any president must have, before all else, and that is to protect the citizens and territory of the United States. He has verbally implied that he as president, would remove the major bulk of our military back home from where they are stationed around the world. With today's technology available to the terrorists, It would be impossible to provide that protection (i.e) from entirely within our own borders. All of the rest of Paul's positive political attributes combined do not equate this single omission. When I see a president or a presidential candidate assume that responsibility I will support him wholeheartedly. My sub-concious image of a president, is a strong looking individual that speaks a little slowly in order to weigh his words carefully and lives up to what he has said. Ronald Reagan had a noticeable habit of smiling slightly, then saying "well," taking a breath and then giving his answer. I loved that small bit of contemplation and I think it may have been responsible for much of the successes of his answers. That brief moment gave him time to fully formulate his thoughts. He always spoke with a low masculine voice and looked straight into his interrogators face. I saw him angered only a single instance when he said "I paid for this microphone and I will use it for what I have to say." (a partial paraphrase) That is why I supported Fred Thompson, but alas, he is gone. Now and we are left with the high pitched whiners.
