IRON COUNTY CANCER UNIT CARELINE DECEMBER 2011
The Iron County Cancer Unit Board expresses a sincere and heartfelt thank you to all who have donated to this worthy cause. All donations are welcome, all make a difference and the generosity of this community is what makes this area so wonderful. As 2011 comes to a close and 2012 is on the horizon we reflect on the happenings of the past year. Once again we have had much activity at the loan closet and applications for assistance. As of the end of September the cancer unit received 49 applications for assistance. The ICCU participated in the April 2nd Home Show which was held at the West Iron County High School. The board members also had a table set up for the Northstar Health Fair at the Windsor Center on October 5th. Dick Boyd’s annual bike ride in conjunction with the WIKB Radio-thon raised $8,536.28 to aid the finances of patient assistance. Many thanks go to Dick for his years of “hitting the road for ICCU”. In fact 2011 marked his 12th year peddling for ICCU. Also, thank you goes to WIKB and Mo Michael for seeing that the Radio-thon is successful. As we close on 2011 the ICCU sees an even greater need for funding as the financial outlook at this point will not allow us to accept applications from new patients. All applications received prior to September 28, 2011 will be honored. Marquerite Christian has decided to step down from the ICCU Board and the board thanks her for serving and wishes her the best in the future. Darlene Gendron has joined the group as of May 2011. At this date the Iron County Cancer Unit is in dire need of donations. As mentioned above, at this point new applications will need to be deferred because the ICCU does not have the finances to assist additional patients. If you have been or are considering donating please do so now as the need is great. The Iron County Cancer Unit is a 501C3 organization and is not affiliated with the American Cancer Society or any other cancer organization. It is operated entirely by donations and all of the dollars stay in Iron County to assist residents that require cancer treatment. The ICCU does not have employees nor are salaries paid. All operations within the cancer unit are handled by the volunteer board members. Overhead expenses in operating the cancer unit include rent, utilities, telephone, insurance and office expense. The ICCU board will be actively promoting fundraising efforts in the future to ensure that finances will be increased so this essential community organization is available to those in need here in Iron County. Currently the ICCU Board is working on making plans for upcoming fundraisers to boost the financial status. If you are able please participate in the fundraising events and promotions. The board consisting of Jolane Spoke, Donna Bond, Linda Colombino, Beverley Dallafior, and Darlene Gendron wishes everyone health, happiness and peace in 2012.
GOD BLESS YOU ALL
