Have you ever regretted doing something after-the-fact because you didn’t have all the information at the time? Most people can relate to that type of experience. Some people in Michigan may have a common tale to tell, a tale which includes statements such as, “I wish I would have known.” We have heard reports from college campuses, Detroit Tigers games, libraries, post offices, farmers’ markets and court houses of people circulating petitions to have Michigan's Constitution changed. The proposed change would allow the killing of human embryos in Michigan for stem cell research. The vast majority of people in Michigan want to see cures and treatments for friends and loved ones who suffer from a disease or injury. So does Right to Life of Michigan. Cures are being promised by paid petition circulators: cures for cancer, cures for people with spinal cord injuries, cures to diabetes. Much is being pledged if Michigan’s Constitution is changed. Unfortunately, what’s being peddled to get people to sign the petition are lies. Will cures come from human embryonic stem cells if we allow our constitution to be changed in Michigan? The simple answer is “No.” To date, not one human being has been treated with human embryonic stem cells. Those who are suffering with a debilitating ailment cannot even participate in a trial with human embryonic stem cells – there are too many dangers, the risks outweigh the unknown, questionable benefits. Stem cell research using adult stem cells is taking place in Michigan with positive treatment results. The constitution in Michigan should not be changed to allow for the killing of human embryos for research. Please decline to sign the petition being circulated, and pass this information on to your friends and family members. Let’s live without regrets.
Taubman Throws the First Punch
The Gloves are Off Billionaire shopping mall magnate A. Alfred Taubman has dropped $1.4 million into an organization which is purposely misleading the public on the issue of stem cell research. The budget of Michigan Citizens for Stem Cell Research & Cures doubled with the Taubman donation; the cash will continue the organization’s highly deceptive campaign to overturn Michigan’s 1978 law banning the killing of human embryos for research and the 1998 law which bans human cloning.
Right to Life of Michigan President Barb Listing said, “It doesn’t matter how much money a very rich person has donated. Right to Life of Michigan won’t be stopped in our efforts to prevent attempts at human cloning from coming to Michigan.”
Squaring Off It has been announced that a state House committee hearing is slated for this month to address the “kill and cure” legislation. When there is a hearing, representatives from Right to Life of Michigan will be present and will speak in support of Michigan’s laws banning both the killing of embryos for research and human cloning.
Join Barb Listing in the Ring Right to Life of Michigan Educational Fund is in need of your prayers and financial support. Please join Barb as she leads the battle against the legalization of their “kill to cure” research and human cloning in Michigan. IRON COUNTY RIGHT TO LIFE is here to fight for the unborn, the mentally and physically disabled, and our elderly. All are at risk. We believe none of us have a “CHOICE” to say a human life should be terminated! Since January 22, 1973, at least 42,588,669 babies have been aborted.
Please make a commitment to help reach these goals by working within the law to end the killing of the “unwanted”. Your prayers are most important to help changes come about in peoples hearts and therefore in the laws of our country.
If you would like to volunteer your time and talents please join us for our monthly meetings at 10:00 am on the first Thursday of the month in the conference room at the West Iron County Library, Iron River.
